Position Title: Peer Arts Group Facilitator
Goal of the Position: The facilitator is genuinely attentive to the needs of the group and believes in the value and benefit of the group process by successfully utilizing group facilitation techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate two-hour supportive arts group once a month
- Timely communication with I Still Matter Director
- Create group activities and successfully implement
- Working with Director, collect all materials needed for group
- Come to group prepared with all materials including: Group Sign-In Sheet/Feeling Flowers/Resource List
- Hand out “Feeling Flower” check in before group and collect after group
- Take photos of artwork and process during sessions (You will get guidance on this)
- Understand, communicate, and promote the purpose and value of a supportive group environment
- Set the tone for appropriate behavior of the group through empathy, humor, and openness
- Moderate sharing during group discussion to keep the group within appropriate limits
- Post signs with arrows to direct people to the meeting room on the day of the meeting
- Help promote monthly meetings through Social Media, Flyers and Resources
- Knowledge of local mental health resources
- Assess when a group member needs more help than the group can provide and refer that person appropriately
- Ability to gently address minor disciplinary problems and redirect, if needed
Qualifications:
- Passion for peer support and helping others
- Passion for and experience with artistic process
- Dependability and reliability
- Actively working on your own wellness plan and/or have taken a WRAP course
- Identifies as a “peer” and has at least two years of recovery http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/peer-services
- Comfortable with group dynamic
- Ability to suspend judgment while trying to understand a peers point of view
- Excellent verbal communication skills and listening skills
- Ability to use humor while showing genuine care and compassion for peers
- Desire and ability to use ISM group tools such as: SAMHSA’s 8-Dimensions of Wellness and Leadership in the Age of Complexity
- Complete Mental Health First Aid training within the first 5 months
Time Commitment:
- Four hours per month for preparation, submission of Feeling Flowers and follow up with Director
- Attend any trainings
